What does an ENT Specialist do? 

ENT (ear nose and throat) specialists are called medically as 'otolaryngologists' or even 'otorhinolaryngologists'. ENT Specialists Otolaryngologists are medical doctors trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck.

To select an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist, many of us rely on a single recommendation by our family doctor (GP) or a friend, or even a random search through the Google search engine. However, choosing the right or the best ENT specialist may not be as simple as one might think.

Most ENT specialists require an appointment but would also accept walk-in patients if their clinics are not too busy. To see an ENT specialist in Singapore, you do not need a GP (general practitioner) referral. You can just pick up the phone and make an appointment to see any ENT specialist in Singapore. However, if you wish to claim the specialist's fees from your medical insurer or your employer then you may need a referral letter from the panel GPs as per required by your medical insurer or your employer.

 If you are confused about the various types of ENT specialists, do take note that most ENT specialists in Singapore do undergo an additional 1-2 years of overseas training in renowned centres (often known as fellowships) to sub-specialise in a specific area within ENT.
